A LETTER FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Donor,

As the new season unfolds at Salem Art Works, I am honored to connect with you as the Executive Director. Your continued support has been pivotal to our success, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to express our collective appreciation.

The past year has been a transformative period for Salem Art Works. In 2023, we navigated through an array of challenges and emerged more resilient and innovative. Our programs, such as the salem2salem Artist Exchange, the UNCG College Residency, and the NY/VT Residency, have thrived, sparking remarkable collaborations and the exploration of groundbreaking ideas. The return of the Family Residency also marked a significant stride in our journey, offering an immersive experience for both the students of Salem Teen Arts and their parents.

As we step into our 19th Season, we are brimming with anticipation for the novel experiences that lie ahead. This year is particularly special as we expand our workshop series with an array of new guest artist instructors. These experts will introduce exciting disciplines including mold-making, stone carving, bladesmithing, and ceramics, further enriching our vibrant creative community.

Central to our mission at Salem Art Works is the fostering of collaborative and artistic exchange. A notable highlight of this year is the ISC@SAW residency, a unique collaboration between SAW and the International Sculpture Center. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to nurturing artistic growth and fostering connections within the wider arts community.

It is also a pleasure to extend a warm welcome to our newest board members, Bill Carris and Peter Lundberg. Their insights and enthusiasm are invaluable assets as we navigate the exciting opportunities and challenges of the upcoming season.

Your unwavering support is the bedrock of our progress and success. As we embark on this new chapter, I extend my deepest gratitude for your continued patronage. I eagerly look forward to welcoming you on campus and sharing the myriad of creative endeavors that your generosity helps to realize.

Warm regards,

Michael Hatzel
Executive Director
